Why Is China Suddenly Wanting To Stir Clear Of Afghanistan?

During the turmoil in Afghanistan, China was one of the few countries to support Taliban rule. Now, even China is getting doubtful about the support offered. Finally, China has realised their mistake of supporting Afghanistan and now they are losing their confidence on their decision.

Taliban is known for their support of terrorism and laws to suppress women in the country. Just four months ago, in August 2021, China has supported the Afghanistan and now they seem to lose confidence in the Taliban due to rampant terrorist activities and ill treatment to women. As per a report, they have made clear about their views on the current condition in Afghanistan. The prevalent terrorist condition in Afghanistan and wide presence of terrorist groups ISIS and Al-Qaeda, makes China aware of their mistake on the decision to support Taliban in Afghanistan.

Now, China is asking for a collaborative approach to fight terrorism. As per a comment by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao, the terrorist Organisations does not respect boundaries and the whole world need to get together to form an international community to combat terrorism. Earlier in October end, he also said that the presence of Taliban in Afghanistan has complicated the regional and international counterterrorism situation, and the mis-use of internet and related technologies by terrorists have made the situation even more complex.

The situation of Afghanistan has been continuously bad after the Taliban took over on August 15 th . Economic, humanitarian and security crises are some of the serious issues facing the country. For several years, China’s has shown interest in Afghanistan due to their available mineral resources. They also included this in Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), but nothing much has been done so far since august. Now they fear about the Sunni Uighurs in Xinjiang teaming up with the Taliban.

China has also criticized US for the exit from Afghanistan and said, it was a hasty and irresponsible decision. Although, China has always been uncomfortable with the Taliban’s ideological agenda.

A university in the UK has found a novice way of keeping the tradition of knitting alive, by launching a book on knitting patterns based on the architecture of the university. The University of Glasgow has collated a book of such patterns that were invited from designers from all over Scotland and are based on the ‘iconic’ cloisters on the Gilmorehill campus and the ‘modernism’ of the library.
