Why Are Farmers Abandoning Their Trade In Libya?

Image
Libyan economic failures are forcing farmers to go out of work and abandon farming moving towards alternative sources of incomes. Libyan farmers are losing hope as they are starting to desert their cultivations are moving elsewhere. The reason is high rise of prices of raw materials and supplies that are being used in agriculture. This has been confirmed by a report published by the London-based newspaper that writes on the Middle East . Cost of living is high, and farmers are having to look for alternatives to fend for themselves and their families. According to many farmers who have spoken to this media source, price of agricultural inputs have doubled in the recent years and that imported goods have also caused severe damage to their local crops yields. Financial losses are difficult to mitigate as the economy is already in doldrums for the longest time. Lack of supplies in the market and cost of living escalations has forced most farmers to shift to alternate modes of employmen...

Libyan Health Minister Caught In Corruption Put Into Judicial Custody

Image
The Libyan Health Minister Ali al-Zenati is under the scanner over charges of corruption. He and his second in command have now found themselves in custody over alleged corruption in the prices of oxygen cylinders with notoriety of scaled up prices. Covid 19 seems to have brought out the devil in many who have made a lot of money over PPE and related services, at the expense of people’s wellbeing.   In a statement made by the Attorney General it was said that, the government had “heard about the failure to comply with the regulations applied in administrative contracts ..., especially regarding the sale of oxygen production units, with a markup of up to 1000% of the purchase price.” The same source also cites "the signing of contracts directly with companies founded on August 10, 2021, which do not meet the requirements of solvency and expertise to carry out the work subject to the contracts." Both have now been placed under pre-trial custody before the case is heard in c...

Why Is Seif-al-Islam Gaddafi Credentials More Bad News?

Image
Gaddafi’s son is now contesting for next month’s elections. This is already causing controversy amongst Libyans. The person in focus is Seif-al-Islam Gaddafi. His father was a dictatorial leader who was slain in 2011. This is Libya’s first ever direct presidential poll to start off on December 24. It is a decisive moment after much of UN’s persuasion to come down to developing a democratic setup. Many residents in Libya are against his candidature. They call it unfair, as the man is still wanted by the International Criminal Court, with many rulings against him. He does not really show himself as any who should be taken seriously. He is known for many crimes against humanity. Registration opened for candidatures on November 15 itself. Seif-al- Islam feels he can restore Libya’s unity. He was already sentenced to death by the Libyan court during the time of revolt. But he was pardoned by a rival administration in the east in a decision that was never confirmed by authorities in Tr...

Libyan Water Infrastructure Crisis Is Affecting The World: UN Report

Image
Water is no more a free commodity and situation in Libya is proof of this.... The Great Man Made Lake, Libya project went busted in 2011 A recent UN report has stated that the ongoing water conflict due to Libya is further putting pressure elsewhere. An ongoing infrastructural conflict that started with a careless act by NATO has snowballed into a massive water scarcity issue in Libya. The arid climatic conditions have always deprived the country of water sources though it does have underground water reservoirs. In 2011, the so called NATO Humanitarian act that bombed most of the water facilities created tirelessly under Gadaffi's leadership pushed Libya's water resourced to nill. NATO's justification was that pipe building plants were actually being used for military stockpiling. But today, the situation hasn't changed and the seemingly humanitarian act as led to an ongoing water war.  “ The wars of the twenty-first century will be fought over water ,” says Ismail Ser...

AstraZeneca Rejected Shots Could Save Other Lives

Image
Those nations rejecting Astra Zeneca shots could save lives of millions in poorer nations, if they could this once prioritise others before themselves..... While the world has been hit by a virus that did not make any distinction between the rich and the poor, the less privileged countries continue to be marginalized when it comes to receiving treatment against the deadly Covi d-19 virus. Each nation has been busy getting its own protected.   Very few are genuinely thinking of the less fortunate. The United Nation’s led Covax scheme was meant to support the lesser privileged nations.   But what is coming through from the wealthier nations is the rejected supply of vaccines. It has taken a lot of effort for the humanitarian organizations to find a balance between a no vaccine situation to some vaccine doses for these poor and underdeveloped nations.   In a recent move, it has been confirmed that now doses of vaccines that stand rejected from developed nations will be s...

In a astonishing turnaround of migrant suffering through Mediterranean, British artist Banksy's artwork has raised a substantial amount for the betterment of children in Palestine   Banksy's original work has been auctioned and sold for $2.9 million the proceeds of which go to a Palestinian children's hospital  The world's most war devastated nations have become an inspiration to someone art- and that has fetched $2.9 million in a Sotheby's auction in London recently. A three-paneled work of the British street artist Banksy depicts the plights of migrants. His work has been inspired over the last few years by the increasing incidents of violence at the Mediterranean Sea. He has also done work to bring out the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. The current work “Mediterranean Sea View 2017,” was initially expected to fetch £1.2 million but went for a better amount, the proceeds of which will be donated to a children’s hospital in the West Bank, the Be...

Erdogan Topples World Dynamics Over Support To Libya

Image
Erdogan's power game in Libya is disturbing a world order Moscow had asked Turkey not to intervene in Libya and send military support  The legitimate Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) had asked for military help and that is when Turkey stepped in. According to a public statement that Erdogan has made over sending troops to “ensure there is a ceasefire in Libya. They are not there to fight.” But that is an ironic statement to make, owing to the fact that this legitimate government has not been able to handle the offensive by the self styled General Haftar in the East. As of now, at least three different groups can claim to have the ability for credible and legitimate governance in Libya. But the fact of the matter is that only the Government of National Accord (GNA) is recognized, and that also outside the country and in the West. In fact, Western nations and the United Nations don’t just recognize the GNA—they created it. So, Erdogan is going to play u...

How Human Rights Violation Has Become A Norm In Middle East

Image
This century is witnessing the worst atrocities against civilised population and Human Rights violation that has rocked Middle East countries and regions cut by civil war..... Human rights violation has been the worst in most of those parts of the Middle East where countries are undergoing civil war or civilians led disobedience movements. Iraq for example is the latest example of a civilian led disobedience which has somehow been ignored by most Human Rights organisations.   These include the Human Rights Watch and the United Nations too. It seems the role of politics has made then take a backseat and play it safe. Iraq is being supported by Iran on the military front, where armed police have been attacking peaceful protesters in an attempt to silence their voices.   After being systematically cut off from the Internet for weeks together earlier and then being restored, the social media is still flowing with stories of atrocities.   Iraq’s...
