Houthis Refuse To Join Riyadh Peace Talks Brokered By GCC

Image
As anticipated, the Houthis have rejected to participate in the proposed GCC peace talks in Riyadh, a confirmed report has said. The talks are to fall between end of March and beginning of April. Mediated by Jordon, this is the latest Gulf Cooperation Council offer to broker comprehensive peace talks between the warring factions. But as anticipated, the Houthis are not interested in ending the war in Yemen, Middle East’s most poor country at the moment. Hundreds of Yemeni politicians, activists, civil society leaders, and even outspoken politicians have been invited to the conference with the single aim of brokering a peaceful resolution to the whole problem. Apparently, Houthis already have preset demands to be met. They have asked the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen should first look at easing alleged restrictions on Sanaa airport and Hodeidah seaport. Till then, they intend to reject holding peace talks in Riyadh.    Meanwhile, the government has positive...

UN Resolution Against Houthis Receives Majority Vote

Image
In the longest struggle against terrorism, The UN Security Council has finally announced the Yemeni Houthis as a terrorist organization, extending their arms embargo. With this, the council has actually expanded the existing arms embargo on Yemen as it adopted a draft resolution that now targets the leaders of the Houthi militia, including Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, to encompass the entire membership of the Iran-backed group. Houthis have been known to loot humanitarian aid apart from indulging in crimes against humanity. With this resolution, many other restrictions and changes follow. For one, financial sanctions and a travel ban on senior members of the Houthi militia remains renewed for an additional year. It also labels the Houthis as a terrorist group for the first time, following an ongoing series of cross-border drone and missile attacks targeting some key Middle Eastern nations apart from a wide range of violations affecting the Yemeni people and the international community. ...

Who Is Eyeing The Volcanic Island Off Yemen For a Secret Airabase?

Image
We still have not figured it out whether the Covid-19 pandemic was actually engineered in a laboratory or not. Yet the desire to kill and control through war motivates the nations of the world Photo courtesy: www. Explica.co There is news doing rounds of a mysterious airbase being erected in a volcanic island in Yemen. At the moment, there is no news as to whose handiwork this is. No country has claimed control over the airbase at the  Mayun Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. But there was shipping traffic spotted here many years ago. Apparently, it was towards a prior attempt to build a massive runway across the 5.6-kilometre-long island and linked back to the United Arab Emirates. Yemen's humanitarian needs have been more than the world can handle. The country is devastated by continuous war over two decades. But right now, the island is becoming a point of focus. Why? Because it  sits in one of the world's crucial maritime choke-points for both energy shipments and...

AstraZeneca Rejected Shots Could Save Other Lives

Image
Those nations rejecting Astra Zeneca shots could save lives of millions in poorer nations, if they could this once prioritise others before themselves..... While the world has been hit by a virus that did not make any distinction between the rich and the poor, the less privileged countries continue to be marginalized when it comes to receiving treatment against the deadly Covi d-19 virus. Each nation has been busy getting its own protected.   Very few are genuinely thinking of the less fortunate. The United Nation’s led Covax scheme was meant to support the lesser privileged nations.   But what is coming through from the wealthier nations is the rejected supply of vaccines. It has taken a lot of effort for the humanitarian organizations to find a balance between a no vaccine situation to some vaccine doses for these poor and underdeveloped nations.   In a recent move, it has been confirmed that now doses of vaccines that stand rejected from developed nations will be s...

Why Yemen’s Horror Is Not Just War!

Image
It is not just war that has robbed people of their right to a dignified life. Brutality against women is another huge factor.  Crime against women is rampant in an Islamic country like Yemen The Civil war in Yemen has made the life miserable for women. The war has drastically cut support services for women.  Many such women have been subjected to slave labour and sexual violence as well. Women have been subjugated and ill treated in Yemen more after the war started. Most of them are married off underage. They are kept as sex slaves and subjected to physical beating as well.  Places that were to act as safe haven for them have not had UN support for a long time due to conflicting needs of a dwindling sick and poor population. If not this, then women are under attack by armed men who exploit and subjugate women.  Yemen has a large displaced population, of which 83percent makes up for women. In Yemen, there is no statutory law that states the age for marriage. The...

Yemen Facilitates Medical Flights For The First Time In Eight Years

Image
In a breakthrough moment, Yemen agreed to let ailing patients be airlifted for immediate medical help  Photo courtesy: WHO official regional report  In the most surprising breakthrough in the Yemeni war , flights carrying patients that need urgent medical attention are being taken to Jordan. The movement has been facilitated by the World Health Organisation (WHO). A WHO representative has said that this is really the first breakthrough in the ongoing effort to create a bridge of confidence in the war torn region.   Atleast 16 passengers have been flown, out of which a majority are women and children who are suffering from conditions like brain cancer and tumors, some needing organ transplants and reconstructive surgeries. Supervised by the United Nations and WHO, the flights from Sanaa will go to Amman and Cairo in Egypt. “It is hoped these flights will enable the opening of regular medical ‘bridge’ flights for sick patients,” said aid organ...

Surprise Strike On Coalition Led New Military Intakes In Yemen

Image
Graduating Batch Of Soldiers Allied To The Arab Coalition Was Attacked In An Unknown Missile Strike There is no respite to the people of Yemen, as yet again, an incident of a missile fired by an Iran-aligned Houthi group struck a military parade. This attack has reportedly killed at least seven people and injured several government-allied southern separatist forces who control the area in the town of al-Dhalea . Ruining the graduation ceremony for recruits to the Security Belt forces , Houthis have not claimed responsibility of the attack. But strangely, it is an indication of this as the Security Belt forces are aligned Yemen's government and a part of the coalition that has been fighting against the Houthi rebels. They are also backed by the United Arab Emirates and looks like a direct attack against the country. The town of al-Dhalea is controlled by southern separatist forces. It lies on the main south-to-north road linking the southern port...

Prisoner Swap Is The First Step To Peace in Yemen

Image
The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia is extremely serious about restoring peaceful governance in Yemen. Showing its sense of responsibility and seriousness towards the recently signed Riyadh Agreement, the coalition has said that it has now released 200 Houthi prisoners to support peace efforts and ending the nearly five-year war in Yemen. The Kingdom led Arab Coalition moves towards swapping prisoners of civil war in Yemen  The Arab Coalition has been supporting the UN recognized government in Yemen. Adding onto the reason taking this action, coalition spokesperson Col. Turki Al-Maliki has added that the purpose is to pave the way for a larger and long-delayed prisoner swap agreed upon last year. As a part of humanitarian actions within the agreement, the coalition is going to be conducting flights in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) to transport patients from Sanaa to countries where they can receive appropriate medical treatment. Th...
