Lebanon Rids Itself Of Syrian Refugees 15000 Per Day

Image
Human rights groups are not in favour of the callous manner in which Lebanon is trying to get rid of Syrian refugees in large numbers. The estimated repatriations are being estimated to 15000 a day. In an interview with a Lebanese state news agency, the caretaker Minister of the Displaced Issam Charaffedine has said that the plans will continue despite UNHCR’s position on the whole thing. Lebanon might have their reasons to do so as it is struggling with keeping its head above the waters. Its economy is not reviving and debts are mounting still. aptly being called a ‘troubled country’ struggling with a prolonged economic meltdown, hosts the Middle East’s highest number of Syrian refugees per capita. More than one million Syrians have sought refuge there, escaping a country racked by a decade of war. While these reasons can justify as to why the Lebanese government is quickly repatriating the Syrian refugee population, in many years, the latter have only been seen as a scapegoat i...

Conflict Due To Climate Change Could Become A Reality In Euphrates Basin: A Report

Image
The European Union has revealed in a report, the possibility for conflict in the Middle East due to climate change. The report prepared by the European Union Cascades project, reveals some striking findings, stating “Climate Change and Water Report for the Tigris and Euphrates Basin.” As per their findings, the climate change in future will affect the water resources, which in further is expected to create economic and political challenges in the Euphrates-Tigris basin shared by the countries of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. Farming and other livelihood is depending on the water, with the expected climatic changes, there will be severe water shortages and water quality problems in future. This in-turn will lead to other issues like food scarcity, poverty, insecurities, and unemployment in rural farming regions, and this will eventually lead to displacement and internal migration at a larger scale than is seen today.” Considering the findings of the report, the expected changes in...

Why Captagon Flows Freely In Syria?

Image
The Black desert, a forbidding plateau covered with volcanic rock that stretches between Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia has few guests – Drug Smugglers and Shepherds. It is only these two categories of people who navigate steep slopes, carrying drugs from Assad regime territory in Syria into Arab Peninsula. This is a rugged 50,000 square kilometre desert which serves the booming trade in Captagon. There is a sharp increase in the drug trafficking from Syria this year, says Arab security officials, helping to turn smuggling into a major component of the geo-political struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran.  As per local officials, drug trade is growing due to the high profitability to businessman close to the government in the Syrian regime and its allies –including Hezbollah and Iran-backed militias. “The problem is that there is no security partner on the other side of the Jordanian border,” a senior Jordanian official said on condition of anonymity. “In such rugged terrain...

Syria Has Sealed Its Destiny To Assad And Doom

Image
Syria's destiny is doomed as it selects the same leadership that has not done anything to save it from misery and poverty Bashar al-Assad has won for the fourth time with a  whooping majority. It is a pathetic future for Syria again with the same leadership that has not been able to prevent war or do anything constructive for its own people.   Leaders in the West have reasons to say that the election lacked international monitoring and violated UN resolutions for a fair vote. Voting cannot be said to be fair and systematic. Sadly, areas controlled by rebels or Kurdish-led troops did not hold the vote. Additionally, over five million refugees who are mainly living in neighbouring countries largely chose not to cast their ballots. A partial voting is not considered fair and true representation of democracy. With this win, Assad comes into his sixth decade of rule in Syria. Those standing on as his opponent didnt seem to have fair chance either. It is being seen as show comp...

AstraZeneca Rejected Shots Could Save Other Lives

Image
Those nations rejecting Astra Zeneca shots could save lives of millions in poorer nations, if they could this once prioritise others before themselves..... While the world has been hit by a virus that did not make any distinction between the rich and the poor, the less privileged countries continue to be marginalized when it comes to receiving treatment against the deadly Covi d-19 virus. Each nation has been busy getting its own protected.   Very few are genuinely thinking of the less fortunate. The United Nation’s led Covax scheme was meant to support the lesser privileged nations.   But what is coming through from the wealthier nations is the rejected supply of vaccines. It has taken a lot of effort for the humanitarian organizations to find a balance between a no vaccine situation to some vaccine doses for these poor and underdeveloped nations.   In a recent move, it has been confirmed that now doses of vaccines that stand rejected from developed nations will be s...

Children Women Worst Affected In Syria Civil War: UN Report

Image
Stories of human atrocities are rampant in the recently released UN report that highlights the worst kind of living conditions of women and children More than 2 million children have been severely affected mentally and psychologically due to the ongoing Syrian Civil War According to the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria , there has been complete disregard to laws of war and the Convention On The Rights of the Child by all parties involved in Syria. This was said by the Commission chair Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro . The physiological damage is much more. While speaking to UN representatives, most victimized women agreed that their children have lost the ability to dream and think straight.   According to the findings, crime continues to be deeply gendered.   The study has collated data based on approximately 5,000 interviews conducted between September 2011 and October 2019 with Syrian children. These also include d...

Erdogan Resettlement Plan Gives Out Mix Signals To The World

Image
Erdogan driven plan to resettle Syrian refugees could be a portent mixture of ambitious and greed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ambitious plan to resettle the more than 3 million displaced Syrian refugees is a great humanitarian effort. But it may not be without the needs for doing away with Kurdish inhabitants after all. The northern Syrian 20 kilometer stretch which Erdogan has been vying for, is home to many Kurdish inhabitants that include participants from the Kurdish forces too. In November, in the UN General Meeting, Erdogan presented a lengthy well documented plan for re-homing all the displaced refugees. But the establishment of this safe zone will have its consequences. For one, we are not sure if Erdogan’s assertion of this ‘voluntary’ movement is actually something the displaced Syrian population really wants. Having stayed away from the war torn region, Syrian refugees have found their peace in Turkish territories. Also, there is a risk...

Lebanon’s Bank Freeze Is A Syrian Loss

Image
With the Lebanese banks running out of currency, Syria is also on the receiving end With cash crunch in Lebanese Banks, Syrian economy is under added pressure Syria cannot avoid facing a ripple effect to a situation starting in the face of Lebanon. Both economies are interconnected and this has never been as obvious as it has become now.   Strangely so, while the civil war broke in Syria in 2011, businessmen back home continue to use their transferred funds to do business through Lebanese banks. The Lebanese pound is escalating and has come to 1500 to a US dollar. Traders are giving it away for 2000 to a US dollar. So liquid cash has gone dry and so is the Syrian population feeling the suffocation. They could avoid sanctions and do trade. The link became more prominent and redefined the previous link where Syrian labor is known to have rebuild Lebanon till 1990. Syrians source their fuel through Lebanese ports, another reason of worry, as the latter is in a tuss...

Australian Nationals In Syrian Camps Cry Out For Help

Image
Australia is refusing to take onus of it citizens stuck in Syrian refugee camp as reports of a new born baby delivered to a Sydney woman floods the media  ISIS surviving wives and children also comprise some foreign nationals that are seeking repatriation by respective countries Millions of foreign refugees are braving food shortage and bitter winters in the Al-Hawl camp in Syria. How Human Rights Violation Has Become A Norm In Middle East

Image
This century is witnessing the worst atrocities against civilised population and Human Rights violation that has rocked Middle East countries and regions cut by civil war..... Human rights violation has been the worst in most of those parts of the Middle East where countries are undergoing civil war or civilians led disobedience movements. Iraq for example is the latest example of a civilian led disobedience which has somehow been ignored by most Human Rights organisations.   These include the Human Rights Watch and the United Nations too. It seems the role of politics has made then take a backseat and play it safe. Iraq is being supported by Iran on the military front, where armed police have been attacking peaceful protesters in an attempt to silence their voices.   After being systematically cut off from the Internet for weeks together earlier and then being restored, the social media is still flowing with stories of atrocities.   Iraq’s...
