Egypt Becomes Another Middle Eastern Nation To Encourage Organ Donation

Image
Despite religious and cultural barriers, Egypt is now encouraging organ donation and would have this detail listed on the national cards of their citizens. It’s a heart-warming gesture and one of great surprise that Egypt is now encouraging the humanitarian gesture of organ donation. Despite its cultural barriers, the country’s health ministry will now be introducing the option of organ donation on every individual’s national IDs. This would be most advantageous for citizen posthumously and help in saving precious lives. It is also great to know that many Middle Eastern countries have already moved on and implemented organ transplant schemes very successfully. Following a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi earlier this week, his advisor on health Mohamed Tag El Din issued a statement confirming that the government was looking into introducing an organ donation option on Egyptian national ID cards, as is the practice in many countries around the world. Although Egypt lega...

Egyptian Release Political Prisoners Without Trial

Image
Release of political prisoners is a part of the national dialogue agenda that is yet to be fully implemented by El Sisi’s government Is Egypt trying to be in the good books of the world or is it something else? The Middle Eastern country has recently, released political detainees that had been held with trial. The latest release includes 31 men and two women whose release was announced by by Tareq El Khouly, a pro-government legislator and a member of a presidential commission that is reviewing the files of political detainees held without trial. Human rights activists have revolted against the detainment of political detainees for a long time. Hundreds of political detainees have been freed since President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called in April for a national dialogue to review key policies. The move was widely seen to be a major, though carefully calculated, move towards allowing a higher degree of freedom in the country. Rights groups claim that thousands, mostly Brothe...

Environmentalist and HR Activists React To Egypt COP27 Summit Venue Over Human Rights Violations

Image
Prisoners of conscience is a reality in Egypt, a country that has been chosen as the venue for the COP27 Summit. But environmentalists and human rights activists are wondering how these aspects can be ignored and the country favored to be the venue? There is gross violation of human rights ongoing for years where thousands of prisoners of conscience are awaiting justice, locked up in prisons in inhuman living conditions. According to a report filed by the Amnesty International in January 2021, ‘prison officials in Egypt have subjected prisoners of conscience and others held for political reasons to torture, cruel and inhuman conditions of detention and are deliberately denying them health care to punish dissent, Amnesty International said in a new damning report today highlighting how prison authorities’ callousness has led or contributed to deaths in custody and irreparable harm to prisoners’ health’. Many activists are now of the belief that this event would lead to a convenient ...

Africa Defeats Egypt In Soccer To Rekindle Self Confidence

Image
Senegal Soccer team has created a history by winning the Africa world cup of Nations 2022, on February 6, Sunday. The final match was between Senegal and Egypt at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé.   The Senegal team has won over Egypt, the 7 times champion to win the Africa World Cup. The Senegal team won by 4-2 in the penalty shootout at the Olembé stadium of Yaoundé. After the 4 th minute, the Egyptian goal keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal, saved a goal. However, this didn’t dampen the Senegalese players. Despite a 57% ball possession Senegalese faced a phenomenal Egyptian goalkeeper coined ‘the great dam’ after the country’s largest structure in Aswan. There was no goal be the end of the second half, and the squads returned to pitch. Later also, no goal was done, despite extra-time and stoppage time. Eventually, the tie breaker was the penalty shoot-out. Again, two misses from the penalty spot, made Senegal win from Egypt. This was the first time Senegal won the Africa ...

Why Is Water Being Sold To Jordon?

Image
It is not oil anymore but water which is on sale now.  While the Nile Basin nations fight over water of the Blue and White Nile, Israel and Jordon are busy entering into a water sale deal. Under this deal, the Jewish state has agreed to sell an unprecedented amount of water to Jordon. Apparently, this will significantly boost Jordanian exports to Palestinians in West Bank. Most of Africa is under drought and looking at eager supplies of water and other means of livelihood. Ethiopia has been able to go against the tide and start irrigating its ambitious and promising Renaissance Dam project, much to the dismay of Egypt. After quite a cold war, Jordan and Egypt are coming close to each other and water is their reason for it. The meeting between the two countries was held just inside the Jordanian border. Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and his Jordanian counterpart approved Israel's sale of 50 million cubic metres of water to its neighbour.  This is being called a tr...
