How France Is Banking On A Health Pass For Tourism Resurrection

France along with Europe is planning a foolproof strategy for its Covid-19 recovery

The French government is working towards establishing the method of a health pass that all citizens would carry along with them, at all times. This will help service providers to ensure that customers they are serving have been inoculated.

All representatives of their respective sectors have been asked to do the needful to ensure the health pass is implemented correctly. The intensive care units across the country continue to receive a throng of patients. The infection rates are going up, but also is the vaccination drive to treat the patients. In the last five days, the French administration has ensured that some 800,000 jabs were given to deserving candidates.

Nearly two million of France's 67 million population have been double-vaccinated against COVID-19. Sixty percent of all care home residents have now had two COVID-19 vaccinations. Strangely, the intensive care seems to still be receiving patients.  As summer ushers itself in, French people want to hit the parks and bask in the sun. The social distancing and mask protocols are being compromised, forcing the police to close down park pathways.

It is not a pleasant scene but there seems to be no choice, unless the Covid-19 infection numbers don’t come down. Medical fraternity still feels that France has not reached levels of virus control. That is evident from the fact that hospital beds are still full of infected people.

That is the reason that France wants to issue a health pass, in order services like restaurants and bars can start functioning without fear of being a home for mass infection. The idea is also being mulled over in Europe to help people travel freely across the bloc. The vaccine pass is different from a health pass. A health pass would not only contain information about vaccination but also about recent Covid tests, making it more accessible to a wider portion of the French population.

The concept of the pass raises questions over data privacy and protection, particularly as the pass could give access to sensitive medical information. President Emmanuel Macron has stated that the pass being implemented is a challenge but looks like the best possible option to help the European economy to start thriving and rebuilding itself, especially the travel and tourism industry which has literally had its legs chopped below its knees in the pandemic.
