How Britain Prepares For Iran-US Impact

With Boris Johnson missing in action, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab speaks for Britain and sounds unshakable support to its biggest military ally, the United States

Dominic Raab has made a balanced public statement as a sound trade ally for the US

With the US having opened a door of offensive against Iran, the world fears the worst. According to British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab “Iran might want to take its revenge by attacking the American allies. On the orders of Donald Trump, the US assassinated Gen Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds force.

While Britain holds a balanced diplomatic stand, it has not shared the best relationship with Tehran in the last few months. Many citizens holding dual citizenship have been captive in Iran, and despite repeated requests had not been released. But 10 Downing Street, the US is its biggest military trade partner. There are reasons British parliament would want to side with the US.

Britain has recently decided to have its Royal Navy warships escort British-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf. Tension has heightened and Boris Johnson is not to be seen in action as if he to return from his holiday break. But holding the ground is Raab who has said that indeed “America has all the right to defend itself. But de-escalation is the need of the hour. We don’t want the situation to snowball into a world war.” He further added that "It was General Soleimani's job description to engage proxies, militias across not just Iraq but the whole region, not just to destabilize those countries but to attack Western countries... In those circumstances the right of self-defence clearly applies."

Speaking openly over a television interview Raab did admit that Iran had been indulging (for too long) into de-stabilizing and menacing activities. Former White House coordinator for the Middle East and the Persian Gulf Philip Gordon has described the killing as little short of a "declaration of war" by the Americans against Iran.

Meanwhile, danger bells have been sounded for British tourist travelling towards the middle east to cut short trips and return back immediately. Further, there is a general scare for the safety of British troops stationed in Syria and Iraq.

Most nations have got their antennas tuned, but one does not know how is Iran going to strike and who is going to be on the receiving end first.
