Bomb Squad Canines Retracted from Jordon and Egypt:US State Department
America has stopped sending its well trained sniffer dogs to Egypt and Jordon after maltreatment has been discovered
As a whistle blower discloses the inhuman condition of canine explosive expert dogs abroad, America decided to bring its heroes back |
As if war atrocities weren’t enough, American bomb
sniffer dogs are being reportedly kept in kennels and refused to be released by
government agencies in Egypt and Jordon.
It
has been discovered that many of them died due to heat strokes, and
malnutrition. After a report was put together
post a whistleblower's complaint to the State Department Office of the Inspector
General, the US has stopped sending its sniffer champions to both the countries.
Further,
three out of 10 dogs provided to Egypt in August 2018 have already met with
untimely deaths. This has been confirmed in the inspector general’s report. Also,
the Egyptian authorities till date have refused to cooperate with the US
personnel and did not grant them access to the dogs or their kennels. The U.S.
Embassy has requested complete medical reports for a set of three dogs that
died this year too.
Since
2018, US has provided about 135 bomb-sniffing dogs overseas in Egypt, Jordan,
Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Nepal, the Dominican Republic and Afghanistan.
Recently, the State Department could repossess 10 dogs from Morocco after
finding the dogs weren’t being used for their intended purpose.
According
to official estimates, it takes arduous training and effort to ready the canine
into bomb experts. The law enforcement programme is solely implemented by the
State Department’s Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) wing. It costs millions of
dollars in recent years to train canines and a 30-day training program for 10
canine team costs $640,000. The American State Department entered into an agreement
with countries to provide canine explosive experts as a way to enhance their
law enforcement programs and detect explosives at sensitive public spots.
Jordon
has been the highest recipient the last few years.
