Why Is Funding Missing?
An Australian non profit that is working to provide protection to women and children against domestic violence has been let down by government without funding
A company that has developed technology on a smart watch for greater good is awaiting funding. They are 100th on the list and they are running out of time. The smart watch can be worn by women and children and protects them against physical violence.
Such cases have surged in times of
pandemic and lockdown. This secret and secure technology can be programmed into
any smart watch, developed by StandbyU Foundation. But now, the organization has
no money to promote and use its technological innovation and awaits funding.
At the click of a button on the watch,
this self-help technology activates an alert, allowing chosen support networks
to listen in, find the victim and organize help for them. The technology
can both be integrated into smart watches and devices with sims where calls can
also be made. After research, it was found that 93percent users admitted
feeling significantly safer after using the technology in their watch.
The StandbyU Foundation receives about 20
to 30 new inquiries each week, and there are currently about 125 women and
children who have not yet been able to obtain one. In 2019, the foundation had
received funding for a trial run from the Department of Social Works to run the
application of about 100 women. They shot their target by 25 percent.
Federal
Government funding is still awaited, that has passed the technology for a 12
months trial period. Despite the results, StandbyU charity founder Chris Boyle
— who spoke at the National Summit on Women’s Safety earlier this week — said
he had a proposal for Phase 2 of the project sitting with the Federal
Government for the past 10 months but “not a single cent” had been invested.
He
said the foundation had also been gifted three Westfield shop fronts in
southeast Queensland but he couldn’t begin building or staffing them until
there was more funding.
