India Seeks Help From America With Vaccine Numbers

With the country's medical system choked and under pressure to manage a surging number of cases of the Covid-19 variant, it is looking at receiving help from the US for vaccine exports

According to a formal statement made by the The White House, there are 10 million doses that could be cleared for export “in coming weeks” and the rest by June 2021. India will now be taking help from  the US for Astra Zeneca vaccine because its own surge in infections are not being able to keep pace with the rate of infectious spread.

India is taking help of 60 million vaccine doses. It has not revealed potential beneficiaries, but the sources said India could gain the most. From a top official close to Narendra Modi, it has taken some diplomatic talking, intervention by the UN and talks from the top medical officials in the country, that US has changed its mind.

It is also a time when the Centre has to accept its failing and would need to keep the country from going underwater. Tweets about Narendra Modi to quit have already been doing rounds. Twitter company has removed these, as usual. But it is a decisive time for the PM.

All eyes are turned to him as many corporate honcho have come forward to donate money and  oxygen supply to ailing patients in the country. The new virus is sapping oxygen supply quickly and this is leading to a surge of patients to running to hospitals looking for oxygenation.

India is now trying to acquire 35 percent doses from the US.

India, with the world’s largest vaccine-making capacity, had donated or exported more than 66 million doses before its own needs jumped because of the surge in infections.
