NATO Weary Of China Extending Material Support To Russia

NATO has made it clear to China that there is just no need to support Russia in its war with Ukraine. This has been suggested by the head of the Western military alliance, adding that the 30 member nations has plans to discuss Beijing's role in the war Moscow is waging on its neighbour. The discussion has happened in Brussels.

As world leaders meet today in Brussels, the G7, NATO and European Union participants are expected to approve major increases in its forces in Eastern Europe at an emergency move as Ukrainian President seeks support. This has been confirmed by NATO’s secretary general Jens Stoltenberg. It is also confirmed that as of now, four new battlegroups will be sent to Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania.

US President Joe Biden is already in Brussels for the special NATO summit today. It is now been said that indeed Russia is responsible for carrying out war crimes in Ukraine. Ahead of the summits, Ukraine President Volodymr Zelensky has warned Western leaders meeting in Brussels that Russia is exerting its economic might to stop Ukraine’s allies from intervening in the war. Zelensky will address the Nato summit via video-link, and is expected to call for more advanced weaponry, including plane and anti-aircraft systems.

As far as Chinese role is concerned, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has added that, “China has provided Russia with political support, including by spreading blatant lies and misinformation.” The grave concern is that apart from spreading false data about Russia’s position in the media, China might also land up giving material support, something Stoltenberg feels ‘China should refrain from doing something like this and live up to its responsibilities.’

The political support that China is providing is already enough to give a wrong picture to the world about the legitimacy of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
